The Loose Leaf Lettuce Company
Fresh-cut salads take centre stage on my plate. My staple diet consists of lettuce, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, capsicums and mushrooms. I have my 5 vegetables a day easily in that mix! Even in winter, we enjoy a big hearty salad with our BBQ.
A way of life
Forty years of vegetable growing has been a great way of life. We are often outside together as a family, enjoying our children and now our grandchildren. The farm has given us the opportunity to be involved in our children’s lives as they grew up. Three of our four children, along with their spouses, and a grandson are currently involved in the business. Both of our parents were vegetable growers too.
Our most popular salads are Baby Green Cos, Special Lettuce Mix, Wild Rocket and Baby Spinach. We process 5 days a week and we deliver 6 days a week, 3 times a day.
We love salads
Fresh-cut salads have increased in appeal and popularity. People want healthy, light meals.
The Loose Leaf Lettuce Company Story
In 1983 we moved to Gingin, Western Australia. Our daughters started growing baby lettuce in 1996 and so started “The Loose Leaf Lettuce Company”. In 1998 they went on an overseas working holiday and we – along with our eldest son, Kevan, “inherited” the Company.
Maureen is an ambassador for the Western Australian Vegetable Growers, President of the Western Australian Vegetable Growers Association, and in 2005 won the RIRDC Rural Women of WA Award.
